Siera Grass-roots Agency (SIGA), is an indigenous NGO that was established with the aim to intervene on behalf of grass-root
communities by being more collaborative, analyzing and proposing policy alternatives jointly with donors and Government with
the view of making rural development more successful and aid funds more effective.
The Government of Sierra Leone and most donors and development agencies have recognized community and rural development
as vital and reliable medium-to-long term approach in reversing the social and economic decline of Sierra Leone. To achieve
this, there has to be a combined and concerted effort by the Government, National and International development Organizations,
donor agencies, and the beneficiaries.
Most individuals and communities at grass-roots level do not have access to professional advice in the identification,
formulation and implementation of development projects. They are in great need of such service in their development efforts.
The Central Government is also ill-equipped to undertake the provision of such needed services all by itself. The Government
services in this regard can be greatly supplemented by those of local NGOs to ensure sustainable community development.
The Siera Grass-roots Agency is one local NGO that has carried out and supported a variety of development work with the
government of Sierra Leone, international development organizations and donors in Sierra Leone since 1989.
